Precis:
As the days go by I am realizing that Morrie Is able to talk with less and less with clarity. It would only be a matter of time before Morrie is speaking so unclear that nobody would be able to understand what he is saying. Despite how unclear his words have become Morrie is still talking about when he was child his mother passed away. This caused Morrie to tear up because he is still sad and it makes him sad still to talk about it. To makes matter worse when Morrie's mother died he had to live with his father who was very poor and constantly out of a job. Also his brother was ill and constantly had to go to a special medical home because his leg was in a bad state wear he had to wear braces on his leg all the time which left him limping. So as you can see morrie is a very strong minded person and I am glad to call Morrie my friend.
Quotes:
On page 70, "He had trouble pronouncing certain words-the I sound seemed to get caught in his throat. In a few more months, he might no longer speak at all." This quote proves to me that time passing by can also bring stress into ones life because another day is another day closer to death.
On page 75,"But a saving embrace came into Morrie's life the following year: his new stepmother, Eva." This quote reminded me that no matter how bad your life is going there will always be that one person that will believe in you and make you feel better.
On page 86, "There was a letter from a man in England who had lost his mother and asked morrie to help him contact her through the spiritual world. There was a letter from a couple who wanted to drive to boston to meet him." This quote reminded me that there are people out there that are going through the same situation and pain as you and there are even people out there that are going through worse situations than you.
Thoughts:
I believe that Morrie is a very strong minded person. I love the way that he keeps so positive and acts as if he is fine even though throughout every passing day he is becoming more and more ill. I am glad that Morrie got the opportunity to share his death with people and that they recorded Morrie's final days and put them on televsision. I believe that a lot of people can learn from Morrie, I know I did because i never thought that anybody would be so positive and act so calmly when they know they only have a limited amount of time left before they die.
Johnny,
ReplyDeleteYou did a really nice job of capturing some insightful quotes and then articulating your thoughts. Your analysis to text is improving quite well. To clarify A precis is a summary of the book, in your own words. If you are still confused about this, I will clarify in advisory.
I think your statements about Morrie and his view on life and death are insightful. I agree that Mitch's point for sharing Morrie's story with the world is helpful and purposeful in the way that it offers us an enlightened view on illness and dying. You stated that by sharing his story it shows others that they aren't alone in their own fights with illness and the pain it causes. I think this books does an excellent job of sharing a painful journey but one that offers us hope, comfort and a meaningful lesson on life.
