HW 5 - Dominant Discourses Regarding Contemporary Foodways in the U.S.

I believe that we are living in a time in which significant reform will not occur. To me it appears as though the people writing those articles do in fact want a reform of foodways to occur because they are putting the time and effort to make vegetables more conveniant however i think the people of the U.S. just aren't willing to eat more vegetables and cut back on meat. However I believe that this is not entirely the fault of the people because there are so many fast food restaurants in the United States. In almost in every corner of every street there is some sort of fast food restraurant. It is almost as if the people in the food business are trieng to brain wash the people(us) in order to fulfill there desire which is to get money.
A well informed member of our society whose worldview gets sculpted by mass-media-propagated dominant discourse would eat fast food such as pizza, hamburgers, etc. She would eat this at the restaurant or at home. She would eat fast food during her lunch hours however she might not eat fast food for dinner. She would probably eat this food with her friends or family members. She would eat those types of food because it is the dominant discourse.Fast food is more dominant than vegetables in the United States.
Fast foods seem to be the most frequently discuseed. I believe this is because so many people in the U.S. eat fast food. Eeven when people are trieng to talk about healthy foods and trieng to sell healthy foods they bring up fast foods. "This week, the company released the 25th edition of its annual report, “Eating Patterns in America.” The news there wasn’t good, either. For example, only 23 percent of meals include a vegetable, Mr. Balzer said. (Again, fries don’t count, but lettuce on a hamburger does.)" (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/25/health/policy/25vegetables.html?emc=eta1) This quote proves that food is the most frequent discussed topic.
